Driver FRD & ZMA filesI have compiled a set of driver response files for several of the drivers that I've worked with in the past. Most of these files were traced from the manufacturer's plots using SPLTrace but some of them were downloaded. A majority of the frequency response data files were originally measured on an infinite (2pi) baffle with a large sealed enclosure. Some of the drivers were measured on a finite baffle where you will need to simulate the baffle in order to subtract out the baffle effects when using the FRC spreadsheet to process the data. These driver data files will need to be processed using the FRD Consortium tools in order to accommodate whatever design you are working on. There is a short tutorial on how to used these tools here. Under that link there is also a picture of an IEC baffle which is often used in making manufacturer's measurements. Seas also uses its own baffle sizes for some of their drivers. Below is a listing of the measurement conditions for some of the Seas drivers... 11 & 12 cm: The drivers are measured in a 2.3 l closed cabinet with outside dimensions 140 mm x 220 mm x 140 mm (W H D) with wall thickness 15 mm. The driver is mounted with an offset of 45mm from the center. 14 & 15cm: The drivers are measured in a 7 l closed cabinet with outside dimensions 180 mm x 290 mm x 210 mm (W H D) with wall thickness 15 mm. The driver is mounted with an offset of 50mm from the center. 17 & 18cm: The drivers are measured in a 12.3 l closed cabinet with outside dimensions 213 mm x 320 mm x 262 mm (W H D) with wall thickness 15 mm. The driver is mounted with an offset of 60mm from the center. 21 & 22cm: The drivers are measured in a 20 l closed cabinet with outside dimensions 260 mm x 439 mm x 242 mm (W H D) with wall thickness 15 mm. The driver is mounted with an offset of 70mm from the center. 25 & 26cm: The drivers are measured in a 29.5 l closed cabinet with outside dimensions 361 mm x 505 mm x 218 mm (W H D) with wall thickness 15 mm. The driver is mounted with an offset of 70mm from the center. Bjorn Magne Idland Lab tech. Seas Drivers offset in the longest dimension, centered on the shortest dimension. Be sure to check the driver manufacturer's website to determine the measurement conditions prior to processing the data using the FRD Consortium tools. Some of the more common driver manufacturer sites can be found in the links section of my website. If you look at the driver frequency response plot you can roughly determine if the original measurement used an infinite baffle or not. An infinite baffle measurement should have a relatively flat response from 200 Hz to 1 kHz while a smaller baffle will often have a 6 dB drop from 1 kHz to 200 Hz. Be sure to check this before assuming that the measurement baffle is an infinite baffle. As shown in the listing above, the driver is sometimes measured in a smaller closed enclosure and you'll need to know the details of this enclosure so you can simulate it and subtract it out of the driver measurement when you go to process the data.
